Student Support 

• Provide an interpreter for shadowing the newcomer and parent-teacher conferences 

• Use translation apps, such as Google Translate 

• Speak welcoming phrases, such as "Glad to see you."

• Display welcome signs in the classroom for all the language spoken in the class

• Provide students with a folder containing classroom routines

• Include word walls with visual cues

• Establish peer support (if possible, pair newcomers who speak the same language)
