Visual Support - incorporate realia, manipulatives, illustrated word walls, labels for diagrams
Learning by Doing - provide hands-on exploration of material, show the meanings of new words with gestures
Oral Language Development - structured, scaffold opportunities to add singles words to sentences frames; use technology to allow students to record their ideas
Reading Support - preview text using pictures, read aloud with comprehension checks and visual support, use parallel texts where learners can read or listen to in their native language
Writing Support - encourage learners to express themselves in writing using their native language or other developmentally appropriate ways:
respond to tasks by drawing
add labels or captions to words or phrases in English
list words or phrases
offer a modeled example of the final produce of a task or assignment
model individual steps of a task or assignment
have student create their own personal vocabulary journal by having them collect words and phrases they have learned throughout the lessons
